The bundled interests of owner-operator shipping put us in a position similar to that of a shipping company, allowing us to process even large cargo packages with confidence. In this way, the ships of DTG Deutsche Transport-Genossenschaft Binnenschifffahrt eG (DTG) manage an annual cargo volume of an impressive 5 million tonnes.
With 200 members and around 100 ships, we are a strong community in cargo shipping which sets high requirements for itself. In DTG, the members elect the supervisory board, which in turn is made up exclusively of ship owners and owner-operators. Annual profits go exclusively to the cooperative members, and thus benefit the ship owners themselves – not the shareholders.
Following the motto, “the right ship for every relationship!”, our fleet is made up of around 100 goods vessels sized from 500 to 3,800 tonnes. This means that we can fulfil almost every transport order and meet every challenge in inland shipping, even at short notice. As our branches are assigned to the respective shipping routes, the locally based employees have
Good quality is not self-evident; it requires a
thorough and continuous quality management system which we use to improve our
processes and services on an ongoing basis: this includes, among other things,
regular further training of both our owner-operators and the DTG employees in
all branch locations.
We also refer to numerous certificates which document our standards from the
very beginning of our work. Recurring recertification audits, training courses
and quality checks also ensure a high transport standard and help us to
optimise the most varied of administrative and transport-related processes. In
this way, DTG is ISO 9001:2015 certified through Control Union Certifications.
Furthermore, our GMP certification (Good Manufacturing Practice) guarantees our
consistent compliance with guidelines on the quality assurance of our
production processes and environment when it comes to transporting feed and
foodstuffs, premixes and mixed feed on inland waterways: DTG and the inland
vessels associated with it are certified for these kinds of transport in
accordance with the hygiene standard GMP+ B4 or B4.3. DTG and its associated
member organisations also have official
approval according to EC 183/2005.
The first cooperative merger in owner-operator shipping took place in 1898 with the Transport-Genossenschaft zu Berlin (TGB – Berlin transport cooperative). In 1990, Transport-Genossenschaft Binnenschiffahrt eG and Partikulier-Transport-Genossenschaft “Jus et Justitia” eG merged to form today’s DTG. This formed a new association for canal and Rhine shipping.
Today, DTG is represented in Germany with around 100 ships in the branch offices in Berlin, Hamburg, Magdeburg and Offenbach am Main. The cooperative is also represented internationally in Antwerp, Rotterdam and Szczecin, while its registered office is in Duisburg, the largest inland port in Europe. In this tightly meshed system of branches and representatives, the cooperative now employs more than 20 specialists with in-depth local knowledge, and who create and implement tailored solutions in the inland waterway transport regions.
