Another year full of challenges is coming to a
close.
The war in Ukraine in particular, and the many horrific images, have made 2022
a particularly sad year.
However, life continues unabated, and we are all committed to tackling the
numerous crises and returning to a world worth living in.
Particularly in these difficult times, it is important to once in a while wind
down and forget current global events,
especially at Christmas.
In this spirit, we would like to wish you “normal”, pleasant, stress-free
Season's Greetings and, of course, a
time of hope and courage, because courage is the key to change.
With this in mind:
Merry Christmas, and here’s to a better year in 2023!
It is never
too early to start preparing children how to safely participate in road
traffic. This is why we supported “Schutz für Kinder Medien” in printing books
for nurseries on precisely this subject.
“Schutz für Kinder Medien” has taken up the task of making free learning
materials available to children free of charge, with the aid of sponsors and in
cooperation with the authorities. Using these materials, children are taught
the necessary respect for road traffic in a playful manner.
Right from the start, this commitment impressed us. We immediately realised we
had to support this valuable work.
And this week, the time finally came. We were able to hand over 20 of these
excellent booklets to the neighbouring nursery in Duisburg-Ruhrort. The
teaching staff were delighted to receive them.
Based on the words of legendary national football
trainer Sepp Herberger
“THE ROUND THING FITS THE SQUARE THING”
Our board member Roberto Spranzi attended the
annual general meeting of Bundesfachgruppe Schwertransporte und Kranarbeiten
(BSK) e.V. in Stuttgart on 14 October 2022. There, he took the opportunity to
inform the numerous BSK members of the possibilities of inland shipping as a
means of transport.
“I would like to know your opinions, because you all hold the key to action in
your hands:
what must the inland shipping transport
mode provide to make it more interesting to you?
Is the training or job description of a commercial worker in shipping and
logistics services still up to date, beyond communicating knowledge about
inland shipping?
Shouldn't we present all means of transport in the same way, to present the
entire range, the full spectrum of transport, and the logistics chain?
Inland shipping does not wish to compete with the heavy goods businesses and
haulage companies.
However, it does want to be part of the transport chain ...
... where it makes sense,
... where its use can conserve resources and infrastructure,
... where it is financially attractive."
Now that DTG has expanded its fleet to include
Polish member companies, we are delighted to have recruited another interpreter
who will join us on19 October 2022.
Ms Ksenia Tomczak
is a scheduler herself, and will be supporting us from Stepnica for Polish
language communication between the vessels and scheduling.
She can be reached as follows:

For all questions relating to bookkeeping, Monika
Gruchala of course continues to be at our disposal.
We look forward to a great, communicative working relationship.

After a period
of construction lasting around 14 years, the new Niederfinow ship hoist officialy opened on 4
October 2022.
With a height of 55 m, width of 46 m and length of now 133 m, even larger
vessels can finally fit in the hoist.
We hope that this important structure optimises the waterway connections in
Mecklenburg-West Pomerania and Brandenburg as well as the Baltic Sea and
Berlin, and supports the movement of goods in the central and eastern German
waterway network onto the environmentally friendly inland vessel.
We are, of course, especially pleased that our member Thorsten Fröhlich and his
MS “Lusitania” had the honour of being the first vessel to travel through the
new ship hoist.
“Ausgetrocknet – wie bedroht der Wirtschaftsfaktor Schiffahrt ist” – a very interesting report by market magazine “mex” on the economic threats to shipping.
Click here to watch After the
engine replacement with exhaust gas reprocessing, our member Klaus-Dirk Link
and his MS “Patrick” received the “Green Award in Gold” from the Green Award
Foundation in April 2022.
We congratulate him and wish him safe journeys.
On 1 April 2022, our veteran employee Michael
Langenhorst celebrated his 40th year of work for the cooperative.
He started his career with Elbia Eilfracht on 1 April 1982. The company later
merged with the Transport-Genossenschaft zu Berlin to become
Transport-Genossenschaft Binnenschifffahrt eG (TGB).
In 1990, TGB eG then merged with PTG Partikulier-Transport-Genossenschaft Jus
et Justitia eG and thus founded DTG DEUTSCHE TRANSPORT-GENOSSENSCHAFT
BINNENSCHIFFFAHRT eG.
Mr Langenhorst experienced all these mergers first-hand.
Since he is essentially responsible for the payments to our members in the
accounting department, to many he is the “company's most important man”, and
highly popular at that.
We would like to thank him for his patient manner, his loyalty, and his
consistent dedication to our members.
We hope that he will remain with us for a long time to come and congratulate
him wholeheartedly on this special anniversary which we rarely have the chance
to celebrate these days.
On 31 December 2021, DTG eG purchased all shares of EuroPart Partikulier GmbH from MSG eG, and is now the sole shareholder. The company’s registered office relocated from Würzburg to Duisburg, and the DTG banner was modified.
We are
delighted that the son of one of our member vessels cut a fine figure on the
popular ARD TV programme “Klein gegen Groß” with Kai Pflaume.
He didn’t just perform well in the direct duel, but was also impressive in the
introduction video when he talked about his life on board an inland vessel...
but we don’t want to give too much away; you can watch it yourself:
Our dear Robin, the whole of STG takes its hat off to you for your performance and thanks you for your dedication!
On 1 January 2022, we sold our subsidiary company b-fakt GmbH to Fendel Schifffahrts- und Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH, Königstr. 16, 47198 Duisburg.
“Stagnation is regression” (Rudolf von Bennigsen-Foerder)
In order to continue our positive development of
recent years, we have added a new, strategically key part to the axis between
our registered office in Duisburg and the office of our 100% subsidiary
Arno-Ship in Schwetzingen by opening our office in Frankfurt am Main on 3
January 2022.
To ensure the success of this venture, we were able to recruit
Mr Markus Liesenfeld
on 3 January 2022.
Mr Liesenfeld's many years of professional experience have provided him with a
well-oiled network within inland shipping, so he'll be familiar to most of you.
Mr Liesenfeld can be reached as follows:
